Dear people of Lithuania,
Today Lithuania has signed a historic act – the Treaty on the Accession to the European Union, which is the most significant legal and political act in our modern history. It can be justly called the guarantee of European unification and the future of our state in Europe.
This date will be enshrined in our history as the most important day that has laid the foundation for the future of our children and ourselves, based on the respect for man, freedom and democracy.
I want to share with the joy of this moment. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to each and everyone who have brought us to this day. Especially I would like to thank Vytautas Landsbergis, the first Chairman of the Supreme Council of Lithuania – the Reconstituent Seimas, and Presidents Algirdas Brazauskas and Valdas Adamkus for their exceptional contribution to Lithuania’s integration into Europe.
In a month you, dear people of Lithuania, will have to vote for the future of our state. I believe that you will say an emphatic YES to the future of our Motherland in a secure and prosperous Europe.
